Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this glorious Nakaya Naka-ai Cigar Chinkin House Kikyo Platinum Fountain Pen, which comes with its wooden presentation box (including outer), cartridges and pen kimono. The pen has barely been used and is presented in virtually as new condition.
Nakaya require no introduction and if you’ve got this far then likely you’ll be familiar with their wonderful writing instruments. The Naka-ai shape and size was designed by Shinichi Yoshida from Nakaya in collaboration with John Mottishaw - it has peaked ends and a tapered body... the name means middle or in-between.
This version is no longer produced and is absolutely beautiful. The pen is hand-turned from solid ebonite rod stock, which then has multiple layers of lacquer applied, before finally being finished with natural urushi resin.
The base colour is a deep kikyo urushi blue, with the Chinkin hand engraving work showcasing a Housoge floral pattern... this represents a 'flower in paradise' as envision by the Pure Land Buddhim of the period. The Housouge origins can be found in the Tenpto period, from 729-749 CE, where Buddhism was becoming an officially recognised religion in Japan. The intricate design is then filled with platinum powder.
The pen is fitted with a 14k rhodium-coated broad nib and it’s a cartridge / converter pen (supplied), so your choice here is bottled ink.
The important details are as follows...
Condition: Virtually As New
Box: Nakaya
Nib: Broad
With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller.
