Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this wonderful Montblanc Victor Hugo Writers Edition LE1831 Fountain Pen, which comes with its Montblanc presentation box (including outers - some light wear to the white outer), facsimile of the original manuscript of Notre-Dame de Paris and unstamped information booklet . The pen has never been used and is presented in as new condition. Only 1831 pens were produced and this is number 0377.
Ever year Montblanc honour a great literary figure, as part of their writers limited edition. In 2020 it was the legendary French writer, Victor Hugo.
The design of the pen is inspired by Notre-Dame, with the cap being decorated with gothic arches and the end of the clip is shaped like the clapper in a bell – recalling Quasimodo and the bells of Notre-Dame. The cap and barrel are finished in red lacquer, with an intricate skeletonised platinum-coated metal overlay. The rosette on the cap is a nod to the rose window of Notre-Dame. The shape of the cone, with it's chain link and the end, is a reference to the posts that Quasimodo was chained to. The top of the cap is engraved with the line 'Chaque homme dans sa nuit s'en va very sa lumiere', which is from Les Contemplations. The iconic Montblanc snowcap is crafted from mother-of-pearl.
The pen is fitted with an 18k medium nib and it's a piston filler, so your choice here is bottled ink.
