Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Silver Rings Celluloid 1950's Fountain Pen, which comes with a modern Montblanc presentation box. The pen is in lovely condition for its age, there are two cracks at the base of the cap, but the cap attaches to the barely completely securely.
The 149's of the 1950's are unlike any other 149 offering and we absolutely love them. The most obvious difference between the 50's pens and those that followed is that the two outer cap rings are crafted from sterling silver, rather than being gold-plated, hence you'll often find these pens refered to as a Silver Rings 149. On these you can get celluloid shrinkage, which then loosens and distorts the rings, but these are still very straight.
This example features the most desirable 'ski slope' feed, along with the short ink window - there is an amber hue to the ink window and the lines are visible. The cone is heat-stamped with 149 and M. These 50's 149s feature a telescopic piston, so during the first stage there is no movement of the piston, then you'll feel a small amount of resistance and when the second stage then activates it is used as any other piston in a 149.
This was an export market example as the main cap band reads 'Masterpiece' rather than Meisterstuck and the barrel is heat stamped with a small 'Made in Germany' marking/
The pen is fitted with a glorious 14c tri-tone nib and these 50's nibs are just a dream to write with.
