Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Meisterstuck 146 Celluloid 1950s Gold-Coated Fountain Pen, which comes with a presentation box and original price tag of 856 pesetas. The pen is presented in overall fantastic condition and even the original retailers sticker remains on the barrel. The cap securely attaches but it appears not to travel the full distance of the threads as the ink window is still very much visible.
The original supplying retailer was 'Casa Univex' in Barcelona - they were a camera retailer, owned by the Wiese family. Interestingly Wiese were the importers for Montblanc for Montblanc prior to the second World War and were even authorised to produce Montblanc pens locally.
The main cap ring features Masterpiece engraving, so confirming an 'export' example rather than German market Meisterstuck version. The pen is crafted from celluloid, with the trim being gold-plated. The ink window remains a vibrant green, which is always a sign of very little use on this era of 146, as the colour tends to change to an amber and almost red tone with use. The cone 146 heat stamp still retains its gold infill details and the snowcap remains bright. There is a little bit of wear to the sides of the nib, we'd suggest that this was likely due to being dipped originally and then left in its box for many decades.
The pen is fitted with a 14k medium nib and the telescopic piston filler means that bottled ink is your choice here.
The important details are as follows...
- 14k Medium Nib
- Presentation Box
- Fantastic Condition
With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication - "izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens".
