This is the vermeil (gold-plated over sterling silver) version and when contrasted with the vibrant green malachite cap, it really is a very striking writing instrument. Malachite was chosen for this pen because it was the stone of the Russian Czars. The intricate detailing is beautiful and the gold-plated barrel and trim provide a brightness but at the same time never a brash look.
