Description
Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this outstanding Pelikan Souveran M1000 Heavenly Maidens of Dunhuang Maki-e Fountain Pen, which comes with its wooden Pelikan presentation box (including outers) and booklets. The pen has never been used and is presented in as new condition. Only 88 were produced and this is number 83.
Released in 2007, this really is a pen that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. The theme of the pen are the Heavenly Maidens of Dunhuang, which is one of the four provinces of the Hexi region created in 111BC. Dunhuang was an important crossroads of the Silk Road, so many people from the East and West met there, bringing their different cultures with them. Buddhism was one of these cultures and the pen takes inspiration from the wall paintings and Buddhist artwork.
The Heavenly Maidens were seen as a symbol of good luck and the design shows them wearing fine robes with colourful belts that express their spirit. The Maki-e work is absolutely beautifl, with the Pelikan logo on the crown, limited edition number and artists signature also drawn by hand.
One of the fantastic features of Pelikan pens is that the nib unit can be unscrewed – this makes it both incredibly simple to clean and you can also change nibs in seconds!
The pen is fitted with an 18c (PF marked) medium nib and it’s a piston filling pen, so the choice here is bottled ink.
The important details are as follows…
– 18c Medium Nib
– Piston Filling System
– Pelikan Presentation Box
With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication – “izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens”.
