Nakaya Portable Writer Aka-tamenuri Elastic Nib Fountain Pen

Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this delightful Nakaya Portable Writer Aka-tamenuri Fountain Pen, which comes with its wooden presentation box (including outer), pen kimono and cartridges. The pen has been lightly used and is presented in excellent condition – there is light fading to the Urushi finish on the cap and top third of the barrel, as the pen was stored on a display in view of sunshine.

Nakaya require no introduction and if you’ve got this far then likely you’ll be familiar with their wonderful writing instruments. The pen is hand-turned from solid ebonite rod stock, which then has multiple layers of red lacquer applied, before finally being finished with natural urushi resin. Over time the brighter red under-layer becomes more prominent.

This example also features the Maki-e converter, which depicts goldfish swimming on the converter.

The pen is fitted with a 14k fine elastic nib – this isn’t a true flex nib, but it does offer lovely bounce and feedback! It’s a cartridge / converter pen, so your choice here is bottled ink.
