Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this wonderful Montegrappa Ammiraglio 1939 Charcoal Celluloid Fountain Pen, which comes with its large lacquered Montegrappa presentation box (including outers), polishing cloth, information booklet – confirming first purchase on 29th September 2020. The pen has been lightly used and is presented in fantastic condition – there is a small mark near the limitation number and this is shown in the photos. Only 80 were produced and this is number 37.

This is an iconic pen, for so many reasons. First and foremost because it represents a unique collaboration between Sailor (Japan) and Montegrappa (Italy). The name Ammiraglio means ‘Admiral’, indicating a Sailor of the highest-order. The design is taken from a historical Montegrappa design and this Mazzuccelli charcoal version is absolutely wonderful, with myriad of grey tones. To incorporate the Sailor nib, the housing and other design elements had to be reworked.

The pen is fitted with a medium (H-M) 18k nib and it features the Montegrappa ratchet piston, so your choice here is bottled ink.

The important details are as follows…

Condition: Fantastic

Box: Montegrappa

Nib: Medium

With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication – “izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens”.
