Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Patron of Art 4810 Homage to Scipione Borghese Limited Edition Fountain Pen, which comes with its complete set of presentation boxes and booklet. The outer box remains factory sealed and as such is presented in new condition. As with other POA pens, only 4810 were produced and this is number 2544.
As part of their yearly Patron of Art series Montblanc honours a great visionary or person of extreme importance in history. In 2017 they chose Scipione Borghese, the Italian Cardinal, art collector and patron of the arts.
Born in 1577 and a member of the Borghese family, he is famously known for being the patron of both the painter Carvaggio and artist Benini. His legacy is the world-famous art collection at the Villa Borghese in Rome, which is renowned for its Roman interior decoration and arguably the most comprehensive selection of Baroque sculpture anywhere in the world. This pen is one of the most stunning examples from the POA range and has certainly caught the eye of both Montblanc fans and collectors alike. The combination of the solid granite barrel and ruthenium coated brass clip and cap, make this instantly recognisable… with the smokey quartz gemstone sitting proudly on the clip.
The pattern on the cap and piston cone are reminiscent of the Borghese vase, with the top of the cap shaped to resemble a Cardinals hat. The Carneol medal on the piston cone features a portrait of Borghese.
The pen is fitted with an 18k fine nib and it’s a piston filler, so your choice here is bottled ink.

With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication – “izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens”.
