Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Patron of Art 888 Henry E. Steinway Limited Edition Fountain Pen, which comes with its complete set of presentation boxes and paperwork – confirming first purchase on 7th April 2014 . The pen remains sealed in its plastic pouch and as such is presented in new condition. As with other POA pens, only 888 were produced and this is number 591.

In 2014, Montblanc honoured the true master of piano manufacturing, Henry E. Steinway. German born Steinway, first started making pianos in his kitchen, before he immigrated to the US to set up a company which would become a name that is truly synonymous with exquisite pianos. One of the standout features of the pen is the glorious solid-gold skeletonised cap- decorated with the very heart of the instrument, the harp or overstring piano.

The shape of the gold clip is a reference to the screw clamps used for the bending the piano rim into shape. The name ‘Steinway & Sons’ is engraving on the piston cone ring. The barrel is decorated with a black and white piano key design (one octave). The snowcap is produced from mother-of-pearl, which is always a delightful addition.

The 18k medium nib has a finely engraved portrait of Steinway himself! It’s a piston filler, so your choice here is bottled ink.

This is one of our favourite recent Patron of Art releases and it’s an incredibly detailed and striking writing instrument!

With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication – “izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens”.
