Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Gold-Coated Fountain Pen, which comes with an IZODS presentation box. The pen has been carefully used over the decades and is presented in overall excellent condition.
This is a straightforward pen to date, as it features a grooved face ebonite feed, single-piece barrel, friction fit piston and 14c tri-tone nib – so placing it between 1965-68. These earlier 149’s also have a cap top which unscrews by hand from the main element of the cap. The clip ring features only a Germany marking.
There’s so much value in these early 149’s, with the resin having a glow that seems deeper than the current offerings and so many delightful historical features.
The pen is fitted with a 14c Tri-Tone oblique medium (possibly a broad) nib and it’s a piston filler, so your choice here is bottled ink. The piston fills and empties fully, you can turn the piston cone even once it’s fully screwed back in to the barrel, but it doesn’t cause any issue with use and as the friction fit pistons are relatively difficult to remove safely to simply adjust for 1mm it’s really not a concern.
The important details are as follows…
14c Tri-Tone Oblique Medium Nib
Piston Filling System

With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication – “izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens”.
