Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this exceptionally rare Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 Gold-Coated Demonstrator Fountain Pen, which comes with a standard Montblanc presentation box (including outer). The pen has never been used and is presented in fantastic condition – because this is a clear resin pen, you do see tiny marks which are never usually seen with the coloured resin versions, these aren’t marks from use, simply production marks,

 

 

 

 

Montblanc Demonstrators are unicorn pens that rarely appear for sale and this is arguably the ultimate unicorn… they’ve never been a production model and we doubt they ever will be. This is a 149 gold-coated pen with all elements – barrel, section, cap, cone and cap top being clear resin. One of our favourite details that is revealed on these demonstrators, is that you can see that the three cap rings are actually one joined piece (shown in the photos) – with the standard coloured resin pens this isn’t visible, so it’s lovely to see these intricate details. This is a wonderful example and finding a 149 demonstrator is almost impossible, but these fully clear versions are even more difficult to track down.

 

 

 

 

Date wise this is likely around 1990, with it having a bi-tone nib, brass piston threads and first generation plastic feed. The pink adhesive visible in the section is correct, as this is how pens of this era were sealed when the nib unit was attached to the pen.

 

 

 

 

The pen is fitted with a 14k bi-tone extra fine nib and it’s a piston filler, which means that bottled ink is your choice here.
