Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this wonderful Montblanc Honore de Balzac Writers Limited Edition Fountain Pen, which comes with its Montblanc presentation box (including outers) and stamped booklet – confirming first purchase on 28th August 2013. The pen has never been used and is presented in essentially as new condition – there is a tiny hole on the inside of the presentation box, which is shown in the photos. The F sticker, confirming a fine nib, can still be found on the barrel.

Launched in 2013, as the yearly offering for the Montblanc Writers Edition, the Honore de Balzac is a tribute to this legendary French novelist and playwright. There are so many subtle nods to both his character and style of dress, including the shape of his shoes being reflected in the barrel cone. The black resin cap and the grey body are decorated with stripes, which pay tribute to the “cutaway” – one of the most important components of Balzac’s wardrobe. He is renowned for carrying a lavishly decorated walking stick, which is portrayed by the platinum-plated clip with turquoise inlay.

One of the most significant design points are the three rings, which are supposed to symbolise the social classes in 19th century France – brilliantly described in his masterpiece “La Comédie humaine”. The, gold-plated clip ring stands for the nobility, the platinum-plated, discreetly decorated cap ring for the bourgeoisie, and the simply worked cone ring for the lower social strata.

Being a piston filler, your choice here is bottled ink. The pen is fitted with a fine 18k nib.
