Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Franz Kafka Writers Limited Edition Fountain Pen, which comes with its book style Montblanc presentation box (including outers) and unstamped information booklets. The pen has been carefully used over the years and is presented in lovely condition. Only 18500 fountain pens were produced and this is number 05785. There is a tiny, about 1mm, gap between the resin and metal ring on the grip section – it doesnt affect the pen, but we simply mention it for a complete description.

The Montblanc Franz Kafka is a beautifully detailed writing instrument. Every year, since 1992, Montblanc have released a Writers Edition and in 2004 this was the pen of choice. Kafka was born in Prague in 1883 and is best known for his literary masterpieces – “The Trial”, “The Judgement” and “The Metamorphosis”. Kafka died at the young age of 40 and didn’t receive true world acclaim until the mid 1940’s and “Kafkaesque” is now a term that speaks solely of his writing style.

The cap and barrel feature a stunning translucent red resin, which contrasts beautifully with the AG925 sterling silver trim.

The 18k medium nib features a fine engraving of a cockroach, which is a further nod to “The Metamorphosis”. This is an interesting pen as it features a captive converter – by that we mean an ink converter that’s fitted permanently in place, so bottled ink is your choice. The pen is not a traditional piston filler, as the shape of the barrel didn’t allow for this.

With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication – “izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens”.
