Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Writers Edition Franz Kafka Fountain Pen, which comes with its book style box (including outer), polishing cloth and stamped information booklet – confirming first purchase on 6th August 2005. The pen has never been used and is presented in virtually as new condition. Only 18500 were produced and this is number 13297.
The Montblanc Franz Kafka is a beautifully detailed writing instrument. Every year, since 1992, Montblanc have released a Writers Edition and in 2004 this was the pen of choice. Kafka was born in Prague in 1883 and is best known for his literary masterpieces – “The Trial”, “The Judgement” and “The Metamorphosis”. Kafka died at the young age of 40 and didn’t receive true world acclaim until the mid 1940’s and “Kafkaesque” is now a term that speaks solely of his writing style.
The cap and barrel feature a stunning translucent red resin, which contrasts beautifully with the AG925 sterling silver trim.
The 18k fine nib features a fine engraving of a cockroach, which is a further nod to “The Metamorphosis”. This is an interesting pen as it features a captive converter – by that we mean an ink converter that’s fitted permanently in place, so bottled ink is your weapon of choice. The pen is not a traditional piston filler, as the shape of the barrel didn’t allow for this.
The important details are as follows…
With every pen that we sell we provide a card that includes the manufacturer, model, serial / limitation number and date it was purchased from us. We do this because our customers like to have documentation showing that it’s been purchased from a trusted seller. As the Financial Times said recently in their How To Spend It publication – “izods is an e-cache of ultra fine fountain pens”.
