If you’re not familiar with Pelikan then here’s a very quick introduction. The company was founded in the early part of the 20th Century and is most famous for its piston filling mechanism, used on their fountain pens. Produced in Germany, Pelikan pens are renowned for their classic design and fantastic quality.
The 1000 Years of Austria was released in 1996 and is one of the most famous Pelikan limited editions. As the name suggests, this pen commemorates Austria’s 1000th Jubillee in 1996. The design was entrusted to the famous Austrian architect Professor Gustav Piechl. Out of the total of 1000 pens, 700 were supplied to Austria, 150 to Germany and only the remaining 150 for the rest of the world. The barrel and cap of the pen are constructed from sterling silver, with an extremely eye-catching red lacquered design. The correct limitation number can be found on the cap.
The pen is fitted with an 18k bi-tone triple broad nib, which is an extremely rare offering as these are no longer produced by Pelikan, having been officially discontinued in around 2012.
