If you’re not familiar, then here’s a quick introduction to Montegrappa. Founded in 1912, Montegrappa is one of the oldest of the Italian pen brands – the name itself comes from the mountain which dominates the Bassanese landscape, rising to an impressive 1775 metres. It has a long, rich heritage including periods where only bespoke pens were produced and several ownership changes over the years. In 2001, Richemonde (owners of Montblanc, amongst others) took over ownership of the company from the then owners, the Acquila family… but in 2007 the company returned to the Acquila’s and that’s how it remains today.
The Guiseppe Verdi Bicentenario pen was released to celebrate the bicentennial of this legendary composer and musician. Out of only 1813 pens produced, a mere 813 ballpoints were released. The body of the pen is black resin contrasts beautifully with the rhodium trim. On one side of the cap you’ll find a laser engraved image of the composers face, with the other side featuring his signature. The cap’s band features the anniversary dates (1813-2013) on the front and the wording “Bicentenario” (Italian for “Bicentennial”) at the back.
