Montblanc Franz Kafka Writers Limited Edition Fountain Pen. It comes with its book style presentation box (including outer sleeve), polishing cloth and unstamped paperwork. The pen has never been used and as such is presented in wonderful condition. Only 18500 fountain pens were produced and this is number 05380. The F sticker confirming a fine nib can still be found on the barrel. The pen came from a fantastic, European based, private collector.
The Montblanc Franz Kafka is a beautifully detailed writing instrument. Every year, since 1992, Montblanc have released a Writers Edition and in 2004 this was the pen of choice. Kafka was born in Prague in 1883 and is best known for his literary masterpieces – “The Trial”, “The Judgement” and “The Metamorphosis”. Kafka died at the young age of 40 and didn’t receive true world acclaim until the mid 1940’s and “Kafkaesque” is now a term that speaks solely of his writing style.
The cap and barrel feature a stunning translucent red resin, which contrasts beautifully with the AG925 sterling silver trim.
The 18k fine nib features a fine engraving of a cockroach, which is a further nod to “The Metamorphosis”. This is an interesting pen as it features a captive converter – by that we mean an ink converter that’s fitted permanently in place, so bottled ink is your weapon of choice. The pen is not a traditional piston filler, as the shape of the barrel didn’t allow for this.
