Montblanc 44 Tortoiseshell Fountain Pen, which comes with an izods presentation box. This is a lovely example of a rare pen – it was previously owned by a very serious collector of Montblanc vintage pens and he purchased it restored on penboard.de. The restorer was the legendary Tom Westerich.
The overall condition is extremely good, in fact we’ve not really offered a better one of these in recent years. These 44’s have a very interesting history as they were produced in Montblanc’s Spanish factory – the reason being that after the second world war Spain didn’t allow any German imports. So a German family, by the name of Wiese, opened a factory (with full patent and production rights from Montblanc) and the result was the 44. The materials used were different from the Hamburg pens, hence the beautiful tortoiseshell design.
The true beauty of the striped tortoiseshell design has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated – it’s extremely difficult to capture the true colour in photos! As mentioned, this is a delightful example which will simply increase in scarcity (and hopefully value!) as the years progress.
The pen is fitted with a 14C fine / medium monotone nib and these are renowned for their amazing writing abilities.
The important details are as follows…
